This movie turned out much better than expected. For some reason I had low expectations for this one, but it was a good movie.

Perhaps because the focus is not so much on pure action, but much more drama/feature film oriented. We mainly train a number of young men to become Coast Guard rescue swimmers. A whole part of the film is about that training and therefore contains rather moderate action, only the beginning and the end contained more action scenes.

The cast also did a great job and was convincing. Visually it was also good.

Although it was a long movie (more than 2 hours) the movie certainly didn't get boring. I was really fascinated to watch.

Definitely worth seeing.

Made this video out of sheer boredom. So expectations were quite low. But damn this is a good movie! Kutcher plays a role here that fits him perfectly, you can see that. Bit that macho type, who thinks he can get any woman, but despite that he has a small heart. For example, he stands up for his friend Hodge who is already trying to successfully complete the training as a rescue swimmer for the 3rd time. Kevin Costner also plays very well. Despite being the best rescue swimmer ever, he still puts his pride aside to take Kutcher to the next level. He didn't seem to get along with Kutcher for a long time, but in the end they seemed like father and son. They had become friends and developed a mutual respect for each other. The film is in my opinion quite unpredictable and not very cliché. He also never gets boring. Definitely a must to see.

Truly an excellent film that sometimes tends to be a bit cliché and too heroic, but never goes off the rails. Seen for the third time now and a valuable addition to the collection since Saturday.

The film begins with an image of a random rescue performed by the chief. The worst can be feared for a moment if this rescue looks a bit easy, just like the resuscitation, but after a second less successful mission and the necessary physical damage, the expected change comes in the film. The training is extremely fascinating but also hard and certain images are not inferior to the physical torture, scolding instructors and failing cadets of a real docu. Centerpiece of course is the battle between Chief and Goldfish.

The underlying thought and message of the film should especially be seen in the story of a 'real' diver during the lessons, who explains his work during and after Katrina. A small tribute to what was done by rescuers back then, and such heroic work in general, cannot be missed. Just like the bubble that Chief Randall bursts at some point regarding the work and that there is definitely a downside to making choices, who does and who doesn't, and perhaps guilt towards the dead.

The Guardian is therefore characterized as a film with two actors perfect for their roles, a lot of speed, good spectacle and a good message. Something that touches me more than anything and that I have a lot of respect for.
