“Get out of my house!”

A real Fincher movie. A chilling atmosphere, tight direction and great actors. Fincher doesn't need much to make a strong thriller. A big and old house, burglars, a panic room and charismatic actors. Foster and Whitaker steal the show, but a young Stewart and Leto are also very strong. Foster and Stewart appear to be safe in the panic room, but all sorts of complications lead to a tense battle between mother, daughter and the burglars. With the viewer as a smiling third. An expertly crafted thriller.

Strong thriller that unfortunately never takes that one step and gets really nail-biting exciting and scary – perhaps because the characters of Jared Leto and Dwight Yoakam are so one-dimensional. The cat-and-mouse game between Jodie Foster and Forest Whitaker, on the other hand, is very well developed, and both actors deliver excellent performances. David Fincher's direction is, as usual, sharp and tight, but as I said in my first sentence, unfortunately he can't give the film that extra charge that I was hoping for.

Reasonable.

I expect a little more from the director of Se7en, but Panic Room is by no means bad. Even Jodie Foster in a not too good rendition can do little to change that. The film stands on its own and is solid enough. Fincher also manages to keep the momentum going throughout the film, partly by getting to the point fairly quickly. But even once the panic room is in use, it can handle the genre clichés that inevitably come up. The supporting roles of Forest Whitaker and Jared Leto, among others, are good.
