What? No messages yet for this once again hilarious Wilder? Lemmon and Matthau is of course a golden duo and the film is full of funny situations.

3.5*.

I can imagine that the competitors for the best supporting actor Oscar didn't even come to the awards, even if they starred in such prestigious films as A man for all seasons and Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf (together 11 Oscars), Walter Matthau's performance here is so perfect. Well, that's what happens when an actor is cast for a role that suits him like a glove, with a well-written and tightly constructed script, directed by a craftsman who knows everything about pace and timing, and with an opponent on the stage. the pinnacle of his abilities in an equally suitable role.

Nice anecdote: "Matthau asked Lemmon why it took the costarring role when all he'd be doing was feeding him straight lines, and Lemmon said, 'It was about time somebody fed you some decent lines.' (Five later, Lemmon would direct Matthau in Kotch, for which Matthau also received an Oscar nomination.)

The least of Wilder I've seen so far. Not that this one was bad, on the contrary, but I had secretly hoped for just a little more, especially with the interesting plot and the craftsmanship of Wilder himself. The craftsmanship was always there. Indeed, it doesn't do anything wrong anywhere, but the finishing touch, the brilliance was something that was missing for me.

In any case, an intriguing plot in which the insurance company is defrauded by feigning an injury. The question is who really benefited from it. The victim herself or the shrewd brother-in-law lawyer who has smelled money. The role of the football player was also touching.

Great teamwork also between Lemmon and Matthau. Funny and strong dialogues at times. Collapses a bit halfway after a strong first hour. Still, worth seeing.
