With the success of Look Who's Talking, they had to deliver a sequel like a rocket - I'm guessing they even had less time to make this sequel than a pregnancy normally takes. Amy Heckerling didn't really agree, but she was locked into a contract. For her, the story was told with the first film and she is right about that; Look Who's Talking Too is one of those quintessentially uninspired sequels that literally repeats the moves of the previous film. So, again, relationship issues between Travolta and Alley, with her invariably turning to her parents or best friend for advice, while her offspring comment. In addition to Bruce Willis, Roseanne Barr has been mentioned this time, she can give their daughter Julie a voice with her distinctive sound.

The cast and director returned, but because of the script, Look Who's Talking Too is a lot less than its predecessor. This is mainly due to the lackluster way the story is told. After Alley's eccentric brother comes to visit for a while, Alley and Travolta get into a fight and suddenly they are - sort of - apart. The couple in love is constantly bickering, so why this apparently meaningless quarrel is suddenly used as the dramatic heart of the film is allowed to Joost know. After that, the film ripples on; we mainly see a lot of shots of a crying baby Julie and every now and then the film turns into a sentimental music video. It is nevertheless not inconceivable that fans of the first film can still appreciate this one, it is not that much worse and Look Who's Talking Too has its sympathetic moments here and there. As far as I'm concerned, a flop 100 position is exaggerated, but no, we're not dealing with a good - and especially funny - film here.

2 stars.
