I don't understand why (at least the first two) Thor films score so poorly here (and on imdb). I suspect that the action scenes are rated as less impressive than in other Avenger films. I can relate. However, I find the action scenes less interesting in these films anyway. The coming-of-age aspect of especially the first parts, being immersed in another world, the contrast of that other world with ours and the clash between good and evil, especially the psychological and moral aspect of it (and not the swords, hammers etc.) are the things that make me enjoy watching these movies. And they fit well with Thor. And don't forget the humor!

The star of these films is Hiddleston/Loki: what a wonderful bastard. I'm very curious about Ragnarok which actually scores quite high. I hope that's not just because of better battle scenes but because Loki comes with some more master moves

Edit: I've read some more comments, including from J.Ch., and now understand the criticism and disappointment better. Just fair points really. Apparently I looked less critical and could therefore enjoy the film well. Perhaps it helped that we set up the film after the Netherlands - Czech Republic; then everything is fine ;p

Since returning to Asgaard, Thor [Chris Hemsworth] has dedicated himself to protecting the nine kingdoms and Loki [Tom Hiddleston] is on trial for his crimes on Earth. Jane Portman [Natalie Portman] discovers a portal near London and comes into contact with 'The Aether'. Gatekeeper Heimdall [Idris Elba] warns Thor of the danger Jane now faces, so Thor decides to protect her in Asgaard. Malekith [Christopher Eccleston] desperately needs 'The Aether' to ensure that he and The Dark Elves can take control of all nine kingdoms. Taylor takes a lot of time to set up the complex and somewhat confusing story, which takes over an hour to finally pick up some momentum. Due to his melodramatic approach and the bombastic special effects, the many characters come out considerably less well. Nevertheless, Skarsgård is entertaining as the slightly crazy Erik Selvig. Continued: Thor: Ragnarok.

Thor: The Dark World is the sequel to Thor from 2011, but also a sequel to The Avengers from 2012. Thanks to the success of the latter film, which appeared more than 1 year in 2012. $0.5 billion, expectations were high for the Iron Man, Captain America and Thor sequels.

The first Thor is in my opinion one of the better films from the Marvel stable. Thanks to the direction of Kenneth Brannagh, we got an action movie that wasn't just about the action, but also paid attention to the characters. How different it is in this sequel, where there is no character development at all!

The baton was taken over by Alan Taylor, who previously had success directing episodes for TV series such as Sex And The City, Lost and Game Of Thrones. Thor: The Dark World was his first major cinema film, but it didn't become a good showpiece. The film does not distinguish itself much from other superhero films and the action is nowhere spectacular. The best moments are in the interaction between Thor and his brother Loki (again excellently played by Tom Hiddleston). The story is weak and the main villain doesn't leave an impression at all. The tricks are an improvement on part 1, but can't compete with those of Iron Man.

All in all, a disappointing sequel and one of the weakest films in the Marvel series.
