Nice youth/family film and honestly not as bad as the score on MM suggests. Fun and entertaining, with very nice space images that are not inferior to what is shown today with CGI. The story is entertaining, and an effort has been made to keep the plot as 'believable' as possible (within the context of a comedy sci-fi youth adventure). Furthermore, clearly recognizable as a film from the '80s. 3*

Spacecamp is a bit of a weird movie. You just have to accept that a bunch of random kids can go to a camp and test all kinds of NASA equipment and run entire simulations. They are judged as if their lives depend on it and then there is a strange robot walking around that has a mind of its own.

So it is very difficult to get into the film, but the 80s atmosphere and the second half of the film ensure that everything is saved. There is a bit more action and things are actually at stake. After you have accepted all the implausibility, what remains is a relatively exciting childhood adventure and it is always fun to see the young Kelly Preston. It was also nice to see a very young Joaquin Phoenix in one of the leading roles.

All in all, this NASA propaganda ride was quite bearable, but the damage to credibility is just a bit too great.

2.5*

Apollo 13 for kids...

Every year, the NASA school receives young people on a "space camp" who can follow all kinds of simulations and procedures for a few weeks and carry them out themselves to become astronauts. A team of young people are accidentally shot into space and must return to Earth with the knowledge they have acquired...

80s entertainment through and through, with John Williams music, with teamwork as a expressed value; you will also see some well-known heads from that period here; and I'm not talking about Joaquin Phoenix as a 12-year-old Star Wars geek.

Very absurd, but entertaining and a few scenes managed to be exciting.
