The Journey of Natty Gann plot
"The journey that made the impossible come true."
Chicago 1935. America has been plunged into poverty and misery for six years. The great crisis is at its peak. Tens of thousands of distraught people roam the country in search of food and work. Many of them risk their lives hanging from freight trains from which the police try to beat them mercilessly. Sol Gann and his thirteen-year-old daughter Natty own a small boarding house in a suburb of the city. They get through the difficulties together, with Natty learning that sometimes little girls can't do without a few firm fists. The moment arrives when Sol must find work. He's on the ground. At his wits' end, he takes a job as a woodcutter on the other side of the country. He leaves Natty with the caretaker of his hotel, Connie. But little Natty has other plans. She goes looking for her father. A long journey begins.
