An accident lands an Earth pilot on a hostile planet, where he is captured by a Drac. However, they are both in the same boat and will have to work together and learn each other's culture and language to fill time on the otherwise uninhabited planet while waiting for rescue.

Saw this film about 25 years ago and what stuck with me was the friendship that develops between the drac and humans. I'm not your average sci-fi fan, but I do have my moments. Anyway, I really wanted to see this movie again. Only gets a bit difficult if you don't know the title and don't know the names of the actors. Until a few weeks ago a friend of mine told me that the drac was played by Louis Gosset Jr. Then the title of the film was easily found via IMDB. I saw the movie again last night after all these years. Of course, the special effects from then are not comparable to those of today and the film does not have the speed that similar films would have now. Nevertheless, I was not bored for a second. Nice to see the film again and to be able to rate it now. I give it three stars.

It's not looking so good, deep space and the spaceships. Once on the planet you're stuck with cheap studio sets and rubber bugs. If one then eats something and then bellows loudly, it seems to turn into quite a cheesefest. I wish it was true. Once Petersen starts tinkering with the interaction between human and Drac (rrr..), apparently you have to take it seriously. Within this setting and with this duo, that doesn't work for a moment. Laughable and not in a fun way.

The film already has more than enough flaws, affected music to name a few, but it is mainly the soggy, woolly mess between the two that completely kills it. Quaid acts like he's got ten gallons of strong coffee up his sleeve and poor Gossett, Jr. has to sing, cry and, yes, give birth, after which it gets much sweeter. Petersen could have better spent that time on his final, which now seems rather rushed and stupid. Besides slippery of course. Zum puke, Wolfgang.

Very entertaining film that is suitable for the whole family (well there is some violence in it compared to what is allowed for young people nowadays) but a typical film for man, woman and the children. It is a bit sweet and there is also a bit of Star Wars stolen (main character is a kind of clone of Harrison Ford). Nice story, nice special effects, predictable and a bit sugary at times, but it fits this film. A must see 80s sci-fi, but don't expect too much depth.
