Great film, if you consider that it really happened and that you have experienced it yourself in the field of patient care, it becomes incredibly realistic. Seen with subtitles.

Very impressive.

In any case, the story is already very strong, of course, but the way in which HBC and Swank play their roles makes the whole thing even more impressive. And that's good, because things certainly don't always work very neatly in psychiatry, and this could benefit from being gently pointed out more often. And perhaps there would be less need to use psychotropic drugs if we all became just a little bit more tolerant and accepted that not everyone wants and can meet the same standards.

Not an easy film, and that is perhaps what bothers the most about the viewership. But, 7 votes here, and 547 on IMDB, for a film with actresses who may not attract the biggest audience, but certainly have very well-known names... I still don't quite get it.

Psychiatric patient Eleanor Riese [Helena Bonham Carter] calls on the help of newly graduated lawyer Colette Hughes [Hilary Swank], who worked for years as a psychiatric nurse. Eleanor has just been admitted, but refused to take her medication, but was forced to do so by the staff. She wants to fight for the right to information about the purpose and effect of the proposed medications, as well as for the right to refuse medication. To do this, the court must interpret a legal provision from 1968 in a different way. Colette enlists the help of seasoned attorney Mort Cohen [Jeffrey Tambor] to convince the court. Also shows how Eleanor and Colette helped each other keep their heads above water and became close friends. The cast does an excellent job, but the camera work is terrible and every opportunity to build drama is squandered.
