Mary Lennox was born in India. Her parents hardly have time to educate and love the child, which makes her very unhappy. Very beautifully portrayed childhood fairy tale about the girl who is allowed to live with her uncle in the gigantic country house after the death of her parents. At first she feels very lonely, but gradually she manages to find the door to the secret garden.
It is very nicely portrayed how little Mary Lennox gradually starts to show more emotions and makes wonderful friendships with Dickon and Colin (her nephew) who is seriously kept under control. His development is also a wonderful emotional picture.
The film is nice and sweet, contains beautiful images of the beautiful garden (although it could have been a slightly more prominent role for me) and wonderful acting across the board.
Even the beautiful ending is touching, rarely such a lousy father (10 years neglecting his son) gets away with his deeds from the past so well. Beautifully filmed and certainly one of the better movies for young people !

I first read the book and for me personally that does not benefit a film because I had certain things in my head differently than that they were made into a movie. Logical of course, but it does make me look at a film with different eyes. Still, I thought this movie was very well done. The mystique of the secret garden is well preserved and the bond between the children is also beautifully portrayed.
