Perfectionist Fassbinder put down a very neat film, unusual and impressive and with a Hanna Schygulla, really sublime.

It is remarkable how Fassbinder elaborates the idea of "everyone organizes his own life" during the aftermath of WWII in Germany on the basis of a melodramatic story about a search for love.

A film that for me starts very strongly and touched me by the circumstances that many women experienced during the war, whether you were on the German or the French/British side ... Maria Braun mourns, but then also stays don't hang around for long. As an opportunistic lady, she works her way up and constructs her own future. There is only one way and that is the way forward. The development of her character can best serve as a metaphor for the economic revival of post-war Germany.

Beautiful role of Hanna Schygulla who is actually there as Maria Braun. She carries the film effortlessly and keeps it going. Didn't always find the plot that interesting, but this got going again towards the end.

I had clearly imagined more from this film. First of all, I thought the story would be a little more interesting and special. Is there only the movie with that name, or was it also a book I had to read in school at the time? Then why do I know this title so well? Anyway, at least the story didn't look familiar to me. And then Rainer Werner Fassbinder. That is also a director that I hold dear. But this film adaptation of the story seemed very straightforward and unimaginative to me. From a cinematic point of view, I didn't find him interesting or special at all. What struck me most was the use of sound. Like a radio that was remarkably loud, while there was also talk. But still, all in all a pretty boring film, of which I unfortunately had too high expectations beforehand.
