One of the better Lone Star westerns.

This is mainly due to the nice finds that are in this film. A tree trunk that acts as a secret shooting range, tunnels and talking vaults.

The final battle is also quite grand for a Lone Star.

Otherwise just a standard Lone Star. With the 3 big names Wayne Hayes and Canutt as an Indian

2.5*

Reasonable western...

The westerns in the Lone Star series are quite similar. I don't think there are big differences in quality between the films. You can have an outlier (both positive and negative), but this The Star Packer is really a film that is close to the average quality of the Lone Star series.

The Star Packer has a simple story that is easy to follow, just like other Westerns in the series. John Wayne does what he has to do: he plays the hero again and he certainly doesn't do it badly.

There are a few holes in the story, besides things that don't really make sense (for example, why does no one realize that the uncle of that woman is not the real uncle but just 1 or other bandit? And why does the cook come So late with that? Well, those are the little things that you have to take into account, I have the impression.

The story is still quite entertaining for a low budget b movie but otherwise it is not much in terms of quality.
The finds are funny, but a telephone and a 1st world war machine gun in a western setting is a bit unusual of course.
