Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai Lambert (Rose Byrne) are overjoyed to see their son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) return, who narrowly escaped a supernatural world with the help of his father. Josh's unusual connection to this supernatural world, however, remains a danger. Together, the Lamberts decide to dig deeper into his childhood to discover the root of this connection.

A film with some strong moments.
Wan knows how to make something fun out of it. Where I found the end of the first part to kill the film, here the ending is very strong and nicely done. Great closing. The build-up, especially in the first half hour, is again very good. Number of scary scenes and wonderful scare effects. Unfortunately, the plot it's all about isn't that great. Takes the scary part of the movie. Wan doesn't quite know how to use his antagonists here yet. Something he did very well in The Conjuring. This makes you think throughout the film whether there had been something more in it. The scene in the house is very good.
Acting is good. Wilson and Byrne do it with gusto. Lin Shaye continues to be the perfect choice for Elise, as are her sidekicks. But both kids are doing great.
Technically very good. Lighting and using the camera to create a certain atmosphere is very nice. Sound is perfectly crafted. Lots of details that provide creepy moments. The music is still not really my thing and really too loud at times.
Wan knows how to make a nice series out of this. Always entertaining and with enough scary moments. Unfortunately he doesn't know how to spice up the story technically and especially the plot in the middle part remains a bit "Mwah".

Meh, where the first part at least had some more subtle horror moments, this second part is more of the usual haunted house movie bombast. The initial build-up of the film is still nice, but it soon degenerates into a galore of jumpscares, none of which really work. The already nonsensical plot is also needlessly complicated with all kinds of futile backstory and detective work, not really what a movie like this needs. The comic element, which could still be tolerated in the first part, also took on crooked forms.
Not good, except for a few nice scenes in the first half. 2*

Psychic psychic Elise Rainier [Lin Shaye] is dead and so Josh [Patrick Wilson] and Renai [Rose Byrne] can't enlist her help when it turns out that things still aren't right at Casa Lambert: a plays the piano, a bouncer rocks and the clichés pile up in the unimaginative opening of this sequel to the mediocre Insidious. But Patrick Wilson manages to evoke some tension when his character starts behaving strangely and the suspicion arises that he has been the victim of a demon. Would it? So slightly better than the original, but it's more of the same.
