Kevin Costner has regularly appeared in romantic sports films. This Tin Cup contains the obligatory dose of humor, romance and beautiful golf scenes. Due to the presence of Rene Russo and ex-Miami Vice star Don Johnson, and the reasonable script, the film is certainly not bad.

The more serious version and also the counterpart of the movie Happy Gilmore. There is significantly less humor in it and more romance, but this film is certainly not bad. In fact, I thought it was quite a fun movie to watch and that was mainly due to the good cast who just lifted this film to a higher level. Kevin Costner and the beautiful Rene Russo played nice but the real star in this movie was Don Johnson who played excellent as an opponent of Kevin Costner. Cheech Marin's role (he more or less provided the humor) was also quite good. The story is actually quite well put together and despite the rather long duration it has never really bored me. The film is described as a comedy/romance, but there really isn't much to laugh about. It is therefore more of a sports/romance film and also quite a nice one.

Judging by the few voices and reactions, a film about golf is a bit of a deterrent.

Well, those who think so are wrong!

This film is a great combination of romance, a look into personal lives, humor and of course the game of golf. You get the beautiful environments and music on top of it just like that.

Kevin Costner and Don Johnson together in a movie is also totally fine, also next to the set of friends and golf practitioners. Would have been nice to see them in more movies together.

Finally, not a typical ending, which I thought was a good thing.

3.5 stars

Tin Cup is a movie about golf. Yet this is only part of the whole. The whole of romance is actually what it's all about and that in itself is well processed. The atmosphere is wonderful and the acting is more than good. That is what the film should mainly rely on because story-wise it is all mediocre.
