No Joel Moore and more Tony Todd; it was also almost inevitable that Hatchet 2 would be better than its predecessor. Not very difficult in itself, because the first Hatchet was not really a good film. And Hatchet 2 is definitely better than the first movie. But it's still a mediocre franchise.

Hatchet 2 - just like the first film - again has some nice cameos from the horror world. Roles for, for example, RA Mihailoff (Leatherface from Texas Chainsaw 3), director Tom Holland (Child's Play, Fright Night) and Danielle Harris (Halloween 4 and 5). The latter can act quite well, but her role here mainly consists of screaming and crying. We have the most fun with a funny John Carl Buechler in a slightly bigger role and especially badass Tony Todd. These, together with the series of nice over the top kills and gore, provide great entertainment in Hatchet 2.

The pity is that Green apparently finds the mythology and backstory of his Victor Crowley so interesting that the first half hour of the film is reserved for it. The simple story of a deformed boy who was bullied and then accidentally killed by his father doesn't need half an hour, does it? Then it takes another twenty minutes before there is finally some action. This action is fine and fortunately with less annoying characters than the first film, but the scares are predictable and Green's attempts at humor constantly fail. Fortunately for him, the bar was not set very high.

2.5 stars.

Same.

Just like with part 1, Adam Green cheerfully continues his steps here. The character Victor Crowley cuts loose again, resulting in a lot of over the top murders, and that is something more films should have.

Unfortunately, the story itself is rather flat. The humor is bland and the acting is only so-so. Despite a few nice cameos and characters by more well-known actors, it was all a bit bland. The killer himself seemed to keep changing in appearance.

Fortunately, the bloody massacres don't stop quickly and it's even a bit more over the top than part 1, but the result remains the same. Lousy film with nice carnage, but a dull story.

I could get in here and I liked it. 'The Candyman' is always fun to watch. Watching the third one tonight.
