"You'll Catch Your Death."
Little snow fun for five snowboarders, who were looking forward to a spectacular descent in the mountains of Norway. When one of the friends breaks a leg, the breakneck maneuvers are over. The car is too far away and night falls. In an abandoned ski resort, the group of friends find shelter to get through the night. Perhaps freezing to death would have been a better option, because in the basement of the hotel lives a dark figure with a pickaxe, who doesn't like strangers.

As unfortunate as I think it is that here on movie meter the horror genre always gets a low score, because in corona times already watched a lot of horror and often surprised about the low scores, I now think it is overrated in terms of score..... story and setting very ok but only 4 kills and none really in the picture..... could be better..... seen much better portrayed kills!

A Norwegian horror film by Roar Uthaug. An older work by the director who used Bølgen (2015) and Tomb Raider (2018) did a really nice job. Movies that offer the hope of finding something less mediocre with Cold Prey than a lot of American horror being produced lately. Recent European horror films often have a fresher look than the American ones. The European usually walks less well-worn paths, looks for new paths and usually uses less worn-out settings.
Cold Prey is quite American. The film has a standard beginning. A group of friends becomes trapped in an isolated place and experiences a threat. It must be said that the characters are fairly realistically designed and less overly standard than in many other slashers. The course of the film is then again fairly standard. Certainly not bad and with a certain thrilling layer but the film fails to add a fresh impulse to the genre.
The setting is well chosen. An abandoned hotel in the middle of a snowy mountain landscape. The location evokes an ominous and oppressive atmosphere. The score sounds dramatic and helps build the tension. Cold Prey is not a bad movie. Cold Prey simply taps into the horror movie's standard reservoir. The result is quite ok, but Cold Prey is by no means a remarkable surprise.
