There is still more going on than what has been stated here. Although it is indeed not the first film loosely based on Orpheus and Eurydice and it is also true that Scorsese and Schrader saw this film before making Taxi Driver. And Schrader's Hardcore is not far away either. Thanks to the World Cinema Foundation of the former, it has all been restored. Even if Scorsese had never made a film, the world owes him eternal thanks for that foundation alone, and neorealism is indeed an influence on this. Also, this movie is an obvious influence on at least half a dozen later Filipino movies that I also saw.

What is not mentioned by my predecessors is the at times very special sound image in which ambient sounds and, for example, also the work noises are greatly emphasized and feel chaotic. It is also interesting to touch on issues such as religion, racism and communism. Although the film is restrained in that area (as is clear from the making of in 1975. Logically, the Philippines was still a dictatorship under Ferdinand Marcos in 1975. Whose son recently won the presidential elections there. Is history going to repeat itself again? ?
