The second installment of the Dekalog series is quite a bit weaker than its predecessor. The story is slightly less engaging, and Kieslowski conveys it just a little less effectively. The film also gets off to a somewhat slow start this time. The acting, however, is otherwise good, especially the doctor, who gives a convincing performance. The final 5 minutes are actually very strong and ensure that it only receives a barely passing grade, rather than a heavy one. It is very beautiful to see how the man eventually wakes up again, while the wasp is busy in the glass with the lemonade. The silence is particularly beautiful, and the visual language speaks volumes. Hopefully, part three will be a bit better.

A decent sequel, but still somewhat less than the first part. Mainly because the euthanasia/abortion issue feels too dated to me. I adopted a stance on that a long time ago, so it didn't move me that much. Kieslowski also takes a bit too long to get to the point. Bardini is fantastic.

Still, a slight step backward compared to the first part. The dramatic effect is less impactful than in the first part, and yet I find the premise regarding the doctor who must choose whether he may play God more interesting than the theme in the first part. The overall execution was a bit too dry and was slow to get going.

Kieslowski does treat us to a number of beautiful images, including the wasp trying to climb out of the glass and the falling water droplets. Hopefully, the third installment will be somewhat better to maintain interest in the series.
