Milada plot
"She fought for her country's freedom at the cost of her own."
In 1949, Prague politician Milada Horáková was falsely accused of a secret plot to overthrow the communist government. In the following year, she was tried and found guilty in a famous trial led by Soviet officials. Horáková was sentenced to death and despite pleas from around the world, including from Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill and Eleanor Roosevelt, she was executed on June 27, 1950, at the age of 48. After the restoration of Czechoslovakia's independence in the early 1990s, Horáková was posthumously cleared of all charges and received one of the highest recognitions of the Czech Republic.
