As far as I'm concerned, a nice western with regular painting-like scenes. The surroundings provide really beautiful pictures.

Great acting from the cast and Brian Donlevy has the right head for the unreliable and unpredictable character he plays.

A nice, well-paced story with a fair number of familiar faces outside the main roles.

Definitely a film that will be taken out of the closet again and perhaps get half a star.

What beauties in this beauty of a 1940s western! And I'm not just talking about the feminine beauty, but also especially about the beautiful setting in which the whole thing takes place. The beautifully shot images are particularly beautifully colored and almost ensure that the narrative side of the film takes second place. Nevertheless, the latter aspect is also very well put together because there may be some clichés, but these are woven into the story in a very pleasant and completely unforced way. In addition, some pretty strong actors and actresses have been brought together to bring the interesting characters to life. So just enjoy.

Strong cast in a western from a period when the genre slowly but surely started to take itself seriously. This film falls between the two stools a bit, partly by still portraying Indians as warlike savages. There are sharper characterizations and the color photography is beautiful, but that is only enough for the true western lover to really enjoy this above-average western.
