Never really had a problem seeing through all that patriotism. I never really understand why you always have to worry about that.

Emmerich knows how to put together a spectacular film and for the first time he also knows how to tell a story well. Historically correct or not, he knows how to get it across very well. The necessary drama is convinced and the motives of the characters are thus justified. The whole story about the war is also very nice. The war itself is beautifully portrayed. The terrible way they faced each other then, literally, is very convincing. Costume design is really amazing and the production design and the locations are beautiful to behold. I can go along with the occasionally very sentimental stuff. The "Papa don't go" scene definitely touches me every time

Mel Gibson convinces in his role and the rest of the cast is also doing very well. Nicely shot and Emmerich who shows that he is certainly capable of more than just making simple popcorn movies, although The Patriot is, perhaps a bit strange given the subjects the film deals with, a bit.

Still one of the best in its genre. The film is long and could have been a little shorter, but on the other hand those beautiful rest periods are also very nicely portrayed. Anyway, this movie is very nicely made. I thought he was even older. Now admire it in 4K. Even better picture and especially the sound is super nice. Fits perfectly with this movie. I had already described the emo moment above and even now it was difficult to keep dry.

The Patriot (4/8) Movie CLIP - Papa Don't Go (2000) HD - YouTube that was played badly)

Who also played a very good role was bad guy Jason Isaacs. Powerful and perfect for this role.

The Patriot fits completely into American history, although this is of course mainly romanticized. That certainly does not make the viewing pleasure any less.

A while back I had set up Braveheart again and I didn't like it very much. Wondering if The Patriot would turn out better. Historically full of errors, but director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and Godzilla) knows how to make a blockbuster. The film is a typical Hollywood film with mainly a series of big names, but not the great acting. But it's quite entertaining. With the necessary drama and battles and the battle between good guy vs bad guy. That you have to swallow some American patriotism and the black pages of the historical facts were swept under the carpet was something to be expected. Emmerich is largely forgiven. The film is still pretty good for this time.

And we should be happy that Heath Ledger is playing along. He planned to stop acting because he only got roles for rom-coms, but luckily was asked by Mel Gibson. Otherwise it might have been done before he would play any nice roles.
