After all their relationship difficulties, Yiu-Fai and Po-Wing leave for Argentina to try again. Here things go so wrong that Yiu-Fai goes to work in a bar to earn the money for the return trip as quickly as possible. Even when Po-Wing is wounded on the doorstep, Yiu-Fai can hardly muster sympathy. The relationship drags on with difficulty.

Kar-wai Wong is known for his atmospheric and beautiful films. Happy Together fits nicely in the list, especially in terms of visuals. The story of a couple in Argentina who hope to build a relationship together again. After all, they were happy together. The question is whether they are or whether love is confused with care or an alternative to loneliness.
The relationship between the two men is interesting in itself, but I miss the familiar atmosphere in the film that is more evident in Kar-wai Wong's other films. It seems like it falters a bit every now and then, the rhythm is not always right. But on the other hand, there are beautiful scenes. Certainly not a bad film, unfortunately the director himself has set the bar so high with other work that expectations may be too high. But even if it is a little less, it remains an absolute pleasure.

First of all, another visually strong film by Kar-wai Wong in which the surroundings with its numerous alleys, dilapidated apartments and atmospheric lighting leave a huge impression. In addition, an equally successful plot of a gay couple who want to leave the worries of the past behind them and move to Argentina. Not that the latter is noticeable.
What follows is a kind of destructive relationship of push and pull, of jealousy and love. The little annoyances and events are all small items in themselves that contribute to the big picture. The sultry atmosphere only reinforces this.
Strange here that some found the sex scene offensive. Too bad that that has to determine the judgment of the film. There is something else going on in the film industry these days.

Mediocre.
Visually very nice work by Wong Kar-Wai, who I hadn't seen in forever. Unjustified, because that man knows how to make an attractive film. That's also the biggest pro. Although the editing is sometimes rudimentary, the film is full of beautiful pictures. Lots of colours, lots of variety too.
Only the content is a turd. The characters are neither interesting nor likable. Their love for each other barely comes to life. The whole thing of attracting and repelling is infantile and annoying. And that's kind of what it's all about, so yeah. I can't say that I enjoyed this film, despite the beautiful pictures.
