I also watched this Horror/Drama movie on "Film1", where they indeed broadcast it regularly. It dates from 1994 and that was apparently the year of the Horror / Drama films, because then came "Interview with the Vampire (1994) " and "Frankenstein (1994)" from.

This story revolves around Will Randall (Jack Nicholson), who is a middle-aged publisher IN New York. He becomes desperate when a younger colleague, Stewart Swinton (James Spader), steals both his job and his wife Charlotte (Kate Nelligan). But after Will is bitten by a wolf, he suddenly gets new energy. His new girlfriend Stewart Swinton (Michelle Pfeiffer) wants to help him, but doesn't realize that Will has become a werewolf yet.

Director Mike Nichols, one of America's most versatile directors, does not make a horror film but transfers the werewolf to the business world, where beastly practices are not uncommon. The result is ironic rather than scary. Jack Nicholson visibly enjoys his role in which he transforms from a worn out older man into an energetic, lustful wolf person. For example, he bites a deer and pees on Stewart Swinton's shoes in the toilet, saying:

"I'm marking my territory."

The beautiful Michelle Pfeiffer, on the other hand, has a rather thankless role as the daughter of millionaire Raymond Alden (Christopher Plummer), and every enemy of her father is a friend of hers. It was also nice to see David Schwimmer in a tiny role as a police officer.

This film has indeed not withstood the test of time (it looks quite old-fashioned now), but because of the star cast (and especially Jack Nicholson of course) it is still fun to watch.

Decent movie and it's been a while since I've seen it. You can't really call it a horror, but it is entertaining. Strongest parts for me were the metamorphosis from a worn out man to an energetic person. The sharpening of the senses, the demarcation of territory and the fear of the horses also contributed to this. We also see a Nicholson who does a great job and is good in his role.

For the rather simplistic and tedious plot. Predictable with that romantic chatter. All a bit forced. The acting is good and all in all quite entertaining.

Not too good.

Wolf is a fairly campy horror film. The classic werewolf story, but slightly different, is delivered fairly standard. Jack Nicholson is perfectly cast just because of his head, unfortunately I can't say the same about opponent James Spader. A young Michelle Pfeiffer skips between them, but without being able to make any impression.

Other than that, pretty good approach. Ennio Morricone provides some ominous music, but the horror is still too tame. The wolves don't look like much, but the make-up that should make the wolfmen look a bit impressive also doesn't succeed at all.
