Aquatic horror, I like it. Would make a good double-bill together with Underwater, although the two films are clearly different from each other. While the former is more action/spectacle oriented, this film most resembles a mix of Alien and The Thing, but within a slightly more realistic context and a bit more subdued. Also clearly a somewhat lower budget, but Hardiman knows how to deal with that well.

You shouldn't expect much explicit horror (although that one scene is nice), but the atmosphere is good. Very claustrophobic and uncomfortable, the feeling of vulnerability in the grand, menacing waters of the ocean is well captured. It would almost make you feel seasick yourself. The acting is also remarkably good for a film like this. It all came across as fairly natural, which certainly benefits the switch to paranoia thriller in the second half.

Only the ending was a bit disappointing. The film could have added that little bit extra to be truly memorable, but Hardiman chooses the safe route. I think there are plenty of genre fans who should be able to get by with this. Strong video. 3.5*.

Nice.

The limited budget is clearly present. Not immediately in the quality of the film, but in the choices that have to be made. Just a little more horror and just a little more exposition would have been nice, but it has to be said that Hardiman makes good use of the money she has, because on the other hand it never looks cheap or compromised.

A film that ultimately has an increasingly oppressive atmosphere. There are a few key scenes here and there that reveal more, always enough to keep the intrigue going, but never quite enough to give complete satisfaction. I was hoping for just a little bit more all the time, but it never really came.

But that sounds more negative than it is, because the direction is more than solid and the acting is also good. The result is a very atmospheric film. I also thought the ending was quite fitting and strong, not exactly what you would expect from a film like this. Recommended from the horror lover who does not rely on explicit elements, but prefers atmosphere.

3.5*

Not a single moment that was really exciting. Some moments soporific.
