Pet Sematary plot

"Sometimes dead is better."

After Louis Creed has accepted a job as a doctor in a small town in Maine, the entire family moves from Chicago to their new address. They immediately feel at home in their new, beautiful home, but the house is located on a dangerous highway. Countless dogs and cats have already been hit by trucks, and have been killed as a result. There is also a real animal cemetery, where the children from the neighborhood have been burying their four-legged friends for generations. One day, Church, Ellie Creed's cat, is also hit by a truck. Together with neighbor Jud, Louis goes to bury the unfortunate animal in a spot at the back of the cemetery. Louis is astonished when a few hours later Church is at the door again. The cat is alive and kicking.

I think Stephen King is the only author who escapes the book = no movie/movie = no book rule with me. Perfect material too, of course, because King is a beautiful person who regularly comes up with refreshing ideas within the horror genre. Believe me the vampires and haunted houses have been bugging me for years.

The production values are around TV-movie level, but director Lambert manages to deliver a really exciting film here that will go just a little too far for television audiences. The usual mistakes in the horror genre: no budget, bad actors, tongue too firmly in the cheek, unbelievable FX, predictable plots, can the lights be turned on?, well-meaning amateurs behind the camera etc[/ i] she knows how to avoid them all. And it's a shame that she is now busy with junk titles like [i]Mega Python vs. Gatoroid.

And that title song by The Ramones should have been a big hit.

One of the classics of the Stephen King book adaptation. I may have seen it on VHS a long time ago, but I couldn't remember much about it. What an atmospheric opening credit! A beauty of a cemetery where nature is gradually taking its place between the crooked and overgrown gravestones. Excellent camera work, too, which slowly goes over the graves. Top!

But actually there is little wrong with the cemetery. The problem lies higher up, in the occult burial site of a former Native American tribe. That the murder road where the Creed family is going to live was going to claim victims, that was clear. The circumstances are good for this one to create a nice horror film.

Not only the present plays a role, but also the traumas or nightmares of Lewis and Rachel play a role in the film. Not that they were relevant, but it made the movie a little scarier. More interesting was the kind of Frankenstein thought where the dead could be brought back to life. Excellent morale also at the end where man never seems to look further than his nose is long. The ratio apparently always loses the mind...

Nice horror movie!

The film does a lot of wrong, but also a lot of right. The acting is on the mediocre side; especially lead actor Dale Midkiff is unfortunately very wooden and colorless. In addition, the tone is sometimes a bit off. In fact, at times it seems as if you are watching a parody. The characters are also annoyingly stupid several times, so that any form of logic is missing. Gage's death... what a clumsy affair that was, say. That said, the effects and grime are usually very nice. A character like Zelda... Lovely! Victor also looks fantastic, although that character in itself misses the mark. The exciting and particularly atmospheric climax, on the other hand, makes up for a lot.

In fact, you can place a minus for every plus. The film needs some time to start up, then becomes interesting, then weakens a bit, becomes interesting again, etc. In that respect it is really a mediocre film pur sang, but one that still deserves to be recommended. The entertainment value is high enough. It's a shame there was probably more in it, but still very entertaining.

3*
