When the animal, however, because his son does not pay close attention to this, starts breeding green Gremlins, all hell breaks loose.

Still rock solid after 33 years, very nice film.

Ideal for a pleasant evening during the Christmas period.

What a fun and atmospheric Christmas movie. Yes, Christmas movie. The snow-covered town with all those deep reds and blues looks visually beautiful, but the beginning in Chinatown and that old shop already shows the visual acuity, and sets the tone. In terms of images and atmosphere, it largely feels like a film by Spielberg (who did produce), but credit is due to whom credit is due; director Joe Dante delivers skilful and beautiful pictures. I have become curious about his previous monster films. There is something to criticize about the Gremlins themselves, especially the comedy content of the creatures I did not always find successful (for example, the film threatens to go overboard for a while at that part in the bar, with the drunken Gremlins). That also detracts a bit from the horror elements, which are certainly present, but for the most part can be called child-friendly. In general, however, Dante finds a successful balance, especially in the part where the chaos in the town erupts for a while. After a wonderfully atmospheric build-up in the first hour, the second part is really a very entertaining piece. After the explode of the cinema Gremlins goes on for ten minutes too long, but it doesn't get disturbing.

But it's been a long time since I've seen such an atmospheric winter film, and Gremlins deserves points for that atmosphere alone. The fact that the rest around it is also well put together, brings me to 4*.

Gremlins the perfect example where horror and comedy come together very successfully. Movie starts great and both the good and the bad are very enjoyable. Wonderful movie!
