From Dusk till Dawn plot

"One night is all that stands between them and freedom. But it's going to be a hell of a night."

Brothers Seth (George Clooney) and Richard (Quentin Tarantino) Gecko are on the run for Mexico after a bloody Texas bank robbery. But they also leave a trail of destruction and bloodshed along the way; especially Richard can't control his bad side. In order to cross the border unnoticed, they take hostage an exasperated widower and pastor Jacob Fuller (Harvey Keitel) and his children Kate (Juliette Lewis) and Scott (Ernest Liu). The plan succeeds, and all five of them head to the Titty Twister, a raucous bar open from dusk to dawn. The company will soon realize that the latter is not without reason...

I've probably seen this one before because it all meant something to me, anyway it was a long time ago. Saw it on CAZ yesterday. First part is fair to quite good with some funny dialogues as if it came from Tarantino himself. Once in the Titty Twister comes both the high and the low point of the film. The sensual and famous dance of Salma Hayek will make many men drop their jaws. Unfortunately no nudity or maybe that is the strength of the dance. Anyway, what happened after that is completely blown out of the box and not even interesting. I can understand that some people find these absurd fights very entertaining, but I soon got bored. There were some nice things like that gun from Sex Machine
I watched the movie but what a bad last half hour. In the end it does not deserve more than 2.5 *.

A bizarre film, and (as far as I know) one of a kind: crime story turns into vampire horror. The film feels like two parts and somehow that has something to do with it: With every horror film you know from the start that you will see horror sooner or later. You can feel the tension from the start, even if nothing has happened yet.

Not with From Dusk Till Dawn, however. The horror comes here completely unexpectedly. Is that bad or very realistic? Because let's face it: if you ever end up in a horror situation, you probably won't feel it coming. It comes like a bolt from the blue, and before you know it you're right in the middle of it. That's exactly what the makers have put down here. A daring achievement.

“Now, this is my kind of place.”

Nice horror/pulp film, which clearly bears the stamp of Tarantino and Rodriguez. The dialogues, the acting, the bloody and crazy second part etc. Tarantino and Rodriguez have again made a tasty cocktail.

The first time I watched From Dusk till Dawn was when I was in my teens, and afterwards all I could think about was Salma Hayek and her dance scene. Still, of course, but the film has something more to offer. The first part is especially atmospheric and an introduction to the colorful characters, and in the second part all brakes are released. You have to be a fan of that, but I can always enjoy the strange fantasies of Tarantino and Rodriquez.
