Cloverfield plot

"Some thing has found us."

A group of young people throw a farewell party for Rob Hawkins, who is leaving for Japan. When a brief earthquake is felt and a gigantic explosion a short time later, it is clear that their night out will be one to remember. With a video camera, Hud, one of the youngsters, manages to capture the various scenes that occur that night. The images show, among other things, the course of a frightening chaotic night in New York City, in which many victims are killed.

Remains very unrealistic with that Hud scene that they don't see the beast before, it can't really be hidden behind a tree

Delicious,

Monsterhorrors/alienhorrors are really my favorite horror genre. I've wanted to see this movie for a while, unfortunately I didn't see it on TV. Luckily got Videoland for half a year and luckily this film was on it!

The film actually starts quite calmly and fun with a party. I knew the camera work beforehand that it was filmed with a handheld camera all the time. I really like that, very original and it really feels like you're just there. The shaking and happening didn't bother me at all, it just feels realistic. Anyway, it starts out pretty funny and fun, so I was immediately captivated. Nice characters none annoying, especially the one who is the 'cameraman' almost all the time I liked!

When 'it' starts it gets even more interesting and captivating. Especially when they run through the streets and walk through the subway it's really exciting and feels realistic. 'It' itself looked very good and the little monsters/aliens that come out of 'it' also looked very good to me. Furthermore, it sinks a little bit at the end, but otherwise a very captivating and wonderful film.

I saw that there are 2 other parts of it, so I'm curious about that too. I hope they come on TV so I can watch them!

New York's demise has never looked more oppressively apocalyptic than here in Cloverfield. Death and destruction, explosions and collapsing buildings left and right, the Statue of Liberty that rolls by, the utter chaos that erupts in a second, the brief glances at the huge creature causing it all[ /spoiler], the screams.. The damnation drips from it, and this is all amplified by the jerky and chaotic use of the camera. The action is wildly chaotic and spectacular, as well as visually stunning. There is always just little enough shown to keep the tension in it. The first normal, quiet quarter of an hour is not boring, but much needed to show the enormous contrast with the chaotic hour that follows. The moment when the first building explodes and then the destruction starts at lightning speed is a goosebumps moment. So it is primarily experience cinema, but I personally think it is a shame that the characters mainly make stupid or cliché choices, and sometimes react illogically (the brother's death is almost completely ignored) . Also, the found footage aspect doesn't really make sense within the film's story; as if in a situation like this you're going to keep holding that camera at all costs. But well, those are little things in itself.

The film is only about 70 minutes long, which makes it extremely effective in terms of speed and suspense. I'm definitely going to revisit this one a few times over the next few years, because it was a unique cinematic experience that made a big impression. I also like to see this on the big screen. Thick 4*.
