"A story to open hearts and minds."
Nine-year-old Gem lives in remote Brewarrina, New South Wales. Her mother has just passed away and she is still trying to figure out how to deal with this. She gets little help from her well-meaning father Jay Jay, who feels the community's skeptical eyes on him as the surviving parent of three children. Gem encounters a wild emu, her ancestors' totem bird, who catches the attention of a new social worker in town.
