The last half hour is well worth it, but the build-up to it is quite long-winded at times.
It goes without saying that the film is watchable in the first hour mainly because of the beautiful and seductive Ann-Margret, but personally I found the character of The Kid a bit empty, this is clearly not because of Steve McQueen but most likely just because his character was written that way.

In the end he still loses, and if that isn't humiliating enough, he also gets defeated by the little boy Still a nice and fitting ending!

Cincinnati Kid is a duel between two experienced gamblers who are willing to lose everything to keep their reputation high. The outcome remains surprising but was somewhat expected. Suddenly, luck can be completely gone. Although I could not follow and understand the poker game between the Kid and Lancey, the tension was certainly palpable. With a very cool Steve McQueen in the lead role.

A slight disappointment. The entire film is actually based on the endgame and it is a matter of waiting for the match between The Kid and Lancey Howard to finally begin. In itself, it is presented well. A nice tension arc is created and the ending did surprise me. I did not see it coming that The Kid would lose in the end. In most cases, it is rather easily chosen to let the good guy win.

Unfortunately, the entire build-up failed to captivate me enough and I was mostly waiting for the final game. The Kid's romantic outing, for example, had little added value. Steve McQueen also failed to convince me completely and his character was rather superficial. A compliment to Edward G. Robinson who was able to impress as an opponent and also to the ravishing Ann-Margret.
