Sissi plot
"The magical love story of the young Empress Elisabeth!"
Emperor Franz Joseph, who will have to find a suitable wife some time after he ascends the Austrian throne, falls in love with the youthful Elisabeth of Bavaria, a cheerful, unsophisticated girl whom everyone calls Sissi. Franz Joseph manages to turn the court's initial reticence towards his very young bride into enthusiasm and Sissi leaves her beloved birthplace and her family to marry the man with whom she will share joys and sorrows.

Like many, have seen this film more than once, either in whole or in part, and, indeed as often stated before, far too sweet and syrupy for an intense experience.
After many years, of course, no other view is necessary. On the contrary, and yet, long after she turned to completely different roles in cinema, it is almost endearing to look down on the charming appearance of Romy Schneider. Ultimately a versatile actress with many (albeit far too few, due to premature death) excellent performances.
Let's call "Sissi" charmingly romantic, Sissi is Romy. Those who did not remember her name at the time said "It is Sissi's" and everyone knew who it was.

I am pleasantly surprised by the first Sissi movie. I think such films are worth gold. The Blu-ray has indeed been remastered. Because it looks pretty fresh and beautiful for a movie that's celebrating its 66th anniversary this year.
Such innocent films are no longer made today. sugary? Yes. Disturbing. No! On the contrary. It doesn't have to be so deep and emotional. Just a wonderfully light-hearted film, which by the way also does an excellent job in terms of humor (think of that cop or Franz Joseph's father).
The locations are beautiful. The beautiful Alps, the beautiful streams / rivers. It all looks nice. The beautiful 19th century costumes are also tip-top. Then the cute Romy Schneider comes into play and the film can't get any better. Although the film couldn't get any better. But Romy makes the film even more interesting with her appearance.
The film breathes art and culture. And there's definitely some history involved. Of course, the story is quite romanticized, but that was a good choice (I think). Because, the Sissi films are quite popular and are broadcast almost every year at Christmas. And let that be the intent and purpose of films like this one. ****
