La Sconosciuta plot

Irena 'the unknown' is a Ukrainian immigrant who lives in an Italian town. Her past is characterized by violence and humiliation. She asks for help from the doorman of an apartment building. In exchange for a portion of her salary, he allows her to clean the stairs. Irina befriends the Adachers' nanny, a wealthy couple who live in the building where Irina cleans. When the nanny falls down the stairs, under not entirely unexpected circumstances, Irina takes her place. She soon proves to be the perfect housekeeper and makes herself indispensable as a nanny for Tea, the young daughter of the Adachers. But Irena has a hidden agenda. The reason she squeezes into the wealthy couple's life is dark and shocking.

Mysterious film that could have been told a little more clearly here and there. The broad outlines are clear, although the film sometimes feels a bit more fragmented. It is also quite atmospheric because otherwise it would be a boring seat and the dialogues are still worth it. In the end not really a plot but how everything works is explained at a slow pace. I was sometimes curious about another Tornatore film after I handed out Cinema Paradiso 5*. However, this one doesn't reach that level anywhere, although it wasn't a bad film either. It's just too patchy and the main character Irena left me too cold to really empathize with her.

Intriguing Italian thriller about a Ukrainian maid who enters the service of a wealthy Italian family. The film starts off slowly and it takes a long time for the motifs to surface. The true facts are already revealed in passing through flashbacks and were reminiscent of the film Eyes Wide Shut (Film, 1999).

The film is beautifully shot and the acting is good. Not a film that blows you away, but is certainly entertaining enough to sing it to the end. The camera work and the soundtrack do the rest. The editing, on the other hand, was not always great. The flashbacks give away a little too much in my opinion.

Nice interplay between Irena and little Tea. Great lead role by Ksenia Rappoport. Not always well developed, but overall certainly solid.
