A story about difficult forgiveness that could have had more depth and smooth transition. Duvall plays tight, consistent, but some shots are cut off too quickly, taking the well-intentioned emotion out of the film. The detailed decoration, the beautiful vistas of Georgia and the old-fashioned glow across the board don't change that. If Schneider manages to fend off those sensitive scene changes in the future, this could turn out to be an interesting director. Just a little enough for his debut, 3*.

So hey! What a role from Robert Duvall! That crazy old man is made for him. He makes the film in that regard. It is an interesting story to a peculiar man. The whole build up is pretty good, but it's the denouement that is a bit disappointing. Already while watching, I knew this would basically make the movie break. Yet neither happens. It's a nice story to be told, but it doesn't really touch me. This is actually because you as a viewer are thrown into the situation too quickly. The village has known him as a hermit for forty years and there are quite a few stories about him. I've been eagerly waiting for the creamy gossip. Because that doesn't happen, Bush is for the viewer no more than an old, other-worldly man for whom you only pity.

The acting is good! The pictures are nice, but the story doesn't last. They just don't dive deep enough and that's really a missed opportunity.

A film based on truth and telling a sad story. The debut film by director Aaron Schneider who then stopped directing a film for eleven years until he returned with the reasonable Greyhound (2020), which is a war film and of a completely different caliber. Remarkably, yes.

Get Low is a gripping film about prejudices, wrong choices and an inanimate attitude to life, inspired by rending doubt. Pleasantly topped with humorous layers to make things not too heavy and to keep things pleasant to watch.

Robert Duvall's fine role as a reclusive living eccentric with the original desire to attend his own funeral. Bill Murray, who plays the grabbing undertaker, is also well cast. Their acting ensures that the parts where the film sometimes collapses can still be viewed without yawning.

The film works very calmly and pleasantly towards the climax (being the funeral ceremony). This makes the viewer feel good from the start. All tension builds up towards that one redeeming moment. The ceremony.

The danger with such enormous expectations is, of course, that the apotheosis is disappointing. Is that ultimately true? Is it really something wrong? Yes, it is indeed a bit disappointing. Although a shocking truth still comes out during the final, it doesn't really pop. I was amused, but I was not completely satisfied.
