Dr. James 'Jimmy' Kildare, who recently completed his internship at Blair General Hospital, is assigned to the work of his mentor, Dr. Leonard Gillespie. Kildare, concerned for the health of his father, Doctor Stephen Kildare, returns to his family home in Parkersville. He wants to help his father with his high workload in his practice, because some local doctors have moved elsewhere. Kildare finds that three fellow doctors at Blair General Hospital don't have enough to do and they could set up a local clinic in Parkersville. But some influential men in Parkersville strongly object to Kildare's plans.
