An ambulance picks up young and recently-discharged college student Cynthia "Cookie" Charles, who is lying on the sidewalk across from a nightclub. Cookie has a shard of glass in her heart, but she survives the surgery. Doctor James "Jimmy' Kildare is fired, however, because the nightclub where Cookie was found is outside the jurisdiction of his hospital. Kildare is challenging his dismissal and a lawsuit pending. Meanwhile, Cookie has fallen in love with Kildare, but he still grieves. about the loss of his fiancée and nurse Mary Lamont.
