The Lottery plot
"You could win an education"
In a country where 58% of African-American college graduates are illiterate, The Lottery exposes the flaws of traditional public school systems and the efforts of hundreds of thousands of parents each year trying to evade this system. We follow four of these families from Harlem and the Bronx who have enrolled their children in a private school. Out of the thousands of registrations, only a small group will be drawn and given the chance for a better future. Interviews with politicians and educators explain not only the crisis in public education but also why it is flexible. Through a cry for action and avert catastrophe in American children's education, this documentary shows that every child can succeed.
