"Siberia. Prison. Beauty Pageants."

Camp UF 91/9, a Siberian women's prison, must be one of the most desolate places on earth. Most women are imprisoned there for drug offenses and assault. Once a year they are allowed to exchange their colorless prison clothes for clothes they have designed themselves, which they then show to each other on the catwalk. We're introduced to Yulia and Tatiana, who were already incarcerated before the age of 20, and Natasha, who was recently released on parole but hangs around because she has no papers to work or travel. . It's indicative that Natasha is happy to return to prison to take part in the fashion show one more time. Her nostalgia for her friends behind bars says a lot about living 'in freedom' for a lost generation just after the collapse of the Soviet system.
