Mediocre movie. Dakota Fanning is and remains a great acting talent, but in this film she pretty much plays herself. Very mature and above all very irritating. Certainly not bad, but it's not my thing. Murphy is decent and together with the rather bland and predictable story there is not much left. Well, the pig steals the show, that has to be said. Definitely not a movie I want to see again.

binoculars.

Might want to take on a little too much with the romance, best friend plot, and friendship that develops between Murphy and Fanning (and another sub-plot like the mother and Fanning's). But in the end the film manages reasonably well and Dakota Fanning does okay too, but it's Brittany Murphy who pulls it to a satisfactory level.

Cosy.

I regularly read concepts such as 'girl film'. I understand these opinions of course, but as a man I could just enjoy this old-fashioned. It may not be that strong in terms of content, but the film dives deeper than you would think and mainly works thanks to some enthusiastic characters.

I didn't really like Fanning that much. As far as I'm concerned, especially someone who played the really good roles in her childhood, because nowadays very few really good roles come out. Uptown Girls may even be one of her better films, but of course Murphy can also be mentioned. Together they have a nice chemistry that lasts throughout the film.

Furthermore, it is all filled in with typical humor, entertainment and sometimes some drama. The special thing is that it all goes together quite nicely, despite the lack of really big pluses. Still, I have to say that the film did manage to touch me, but that may have been due to the mood at the time. Anyway, I had a good time with it. By the way, extra points for the dreamy flashbacks. Small stars are those.
