What a great cast! Alicia Keys,Queen Latifah,Jennifer Hudson,Dakota Fanning.I thought this film was definitely worth watching because I find it very interesting to learn something about bees .It is all in all a beautiful film with a sad end. This film is an absolute must

Indeed a film to see again which I will definitely do again. A funny element in the film is that all sisters are named in the month they were born. The woman in the film who plays Queen Latifah has such a good heart! If only there were more people like that. Shame about May Boatwrigh. August and June's sister, the girl who wasn't so sane.

I shed a tear every now and then with this film!

In the beginning, a horrific 'redneck' environment is outlined with the usual racial hatred and ultra conservative views.

It is about a girl who has a difficult relationship with her dominant father and about a woman (the maid) with a dark complexion. Together they run away after the dark woman is beaten up by such a redneck. They go in search of the story of the girl's mother and can find shelter with beekeepers.

Well acted by the ladies. Nice fitting country & blues songs. The film has a calm, rural atmosphere and there are a lot of dialogues with 'life wisdom'.

The story is a bit too edifying for my taste, hence the somewhat lower rating.

In terms of nature images and (a lot of) information about keeping bees, the film is also interesting.

In the racist America of 1964, a 14-year-old white girl runs away from home with her black housekeeper. They are sheltered in a place far away in a house inhabited by three independent black sisters. And they keep themselves alive by keeping bees. Beekeeping is always a very nice element in movies. I now know more where beekeeping also plays an important role in the film. And it works very nicely here too. Other than that, it's basically a great movie with a great story. But unfortunately the film is very deeply immersed in a thick layer of Hollywood drama and sentiment. And towards the end that layer even becomes so thick that I had to look around the house to see if I didn't have a tub somewhere. Very unfortunate, because the film could have been a gem with a different director and a less commercial approach.
