See very few similarities with Get Out to be honest, and that's a good thing. Wonderful mix between comic satire and absurdism that - if anything - is most reminiscent of a few Adult Swim shorts. The creativity explodes, the pace is nice and high, the casting is perfect, the humor sharp and when the film derails roguishly towards the end, it is completely enjoyable. Eye for detail is sublime and in almost every shot there is something remarkable to see or hear. Whatever else you think of the film, you have to do your best if you want to get bored.

I would have liked just that little bit more crazy to be really genius, although the film does have its bizarre moments. For example, the scene in which that horse man appears for the first time is such a wonderful WTF moment. I should have seen the last scene coming well in advance. Anyway, one of the most imaginative comedies of recent years seems to me. Nice entry from Riley. 4*.

“This place is fucking nuts.”
“Thank you for the backhanded compliment.”

Sorry to Bother You is bursting with energy and is original, quirky and cleverly made. Beginning director Boots Riley has so many ideas he wants to put into his film that I wondered if his head didn't explode during filming. Strange style choices, a weird ending, Tessa Thompson with her big earrings, half man/half horse including the voice of Forest Whitaker, a cocaine sniffing Armie Hammer, a crazy rap song, Oswalt and Lily James who when "white" voiceovers perform for Stanfield and Thompson etc. It all comes along. Lots of different genres and style choices but for me it worked great.

Think I'm the winner this time, but I don't often give such a low rating. But man man, very annoying movie. It was supposed to be a comedy, but the movie was so dry and boring. By boring I mean really boring. The jokes didn't get through at all. Way too forced, which is probably the intent. Story was too floaty and the abrupt jumpy scenes don't make it any better. I had the feeling that I had to be on a lot of stimulants with this film to find it funny and understand it. At 20 minutes I already had the feeling of have to stop him now. But somewhere my sense of look said a little longer, probably the comedic highlights are yet to come and the story has to slowly build up to a climax. But unfortunately, after 50 minutes the film remains just as monotonous and boring as it starts with. So I stopped here too. People who compare this a bit with Get Out, I don't share that opinion. Because 'Get Out' against it was a very good film.
