Mr. Deeds Goes to Town plot
"Rocking America with laughter!"
A multimillionaire dies in a car accident in Italy and the lawyers will have to find out who is the heir to 20 million. They find Longfellow Deeds, the deceased's cousin, in a small village. The man seems uninterested in the fortune and seems to care more about the little things in life. They take him to the big city and want to convince him to give them, like his uncle, full power of attorney over the fortune. However, there are more hijackers on the coast and Deeds has no intention of moving into this new realm of big money without further information.

Yes, again Frank Capra, the director who in the thirties gave de Kleine Luyden hope against the power of big business. Very witty and, despite the predictable plot development, still moving. "He's pixilated."

Sincerity and honesty take precedence over self-interest and chasing money in this white-black film, very neatly and well-balanced, with a pack of excellent actors, Gary Cooper, in his versatility, in the lead. A film that undoubtedly went straight to the heart of everyone when it was released and in fact is still current.

Excellent film about a man in a small town who inherits a fortune when his uncle dies. Gary Cooper does a good job as Longfellow Deeds (not just a lovely name, but above all a lovely character). However, it is Jean Arthur who stands out the most here. The film is easy to watch and has a strong finale. This Frank Capra classic may have served as a blueprint for many later rom-coms.
