Finally saw "Stan & Ollie" today.

The drama, behind the scenes, of their last days in the spotlight.

This is a must see for all fans of the original duo.

What the actors Steve Coogan (Stan) and John C. Reilly (Ollie) put here is phenomenal!

It's so good that I (almost) never thought for a moment that it wasn't the real Laurel & Hardy on screen.

Unbelievable but true.

Coogan, in particular, plays the role of Stan down to the last detail, including voice and pronunciation.

There were two moments when it was easy to hear and see that it was not the original comedy duo we were looking at..

At the time Reilly sang the song "In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia".

He couldn't get close to the unique high-pitched almost boyish voice of the real Oliver Hardy. (that would have been a miracle too)

Coogan could do this with the voice of Stan Laurel (!)

And at the very end of the film, during the credits, when you see an original recording of the two's famous dance, from "Way Out West" (1937).

Then you can see the difference in motor skills and finesse between L&H and Coogan & Reilly.

L&H's wives also play an important role in the story.

Shirley Henderson (Lucille Hardy) is especially hilarious.

A film that moved me and will stay with me.

NB

But don't take the film story literally for truth, because quite a few things are really different than in reality.

Plagued by a bit of melancholy, I watched this film about the late days of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy with the necessary nostalgic feelings. Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly put down lifelike renditions of the greatest comic duo ever produced, especially in terms of facial expressions. In the past, I've often cried tears of tears at the brilliant, oh-so-ignorant twosome who, with a simple gesture or a nonsensical remark, quickly destroyed a cinema hall. Lovely to be reminded of that.

So it's high time to bring out my “De Dikke en de Dunne” collection once again.

Beautiful film that for once does not show the rise and fall but only the decline, with the poignant contrast that the studios no longer see any bread in Laurel and Hardy in 1953 while inferior comedians such as Abbott & Costello still celebrate triumphs and Norman Wisdom is on the rise is. It's nice how they continue to play their classic sketches that have already been played to death in smaller rooms, and how lovingly the men continue to treat each other throughout the film, until they meet at that reception in the Lyceum should tell the truth... A moving melancholic atmosphere that is reinforced by the fact that almost from the start I didn't see Coogan and Reilly but the magical duo in person, and not only because of the (stunning ) physical similarities, but also and above all because of those small gestures and inflections that are so familiar to me from their brilliant films. Superb acting by both actors, in other words.
