A Taste of Honey plot
"We don’t ask for life. We have it thrust upon us."
The film is about the personal histories of the 'little people' in the big cities. The camera took to the streets and filmed in the slums, not in the expensive neighborhoods. The harsh reality was no longer hushed up, but was given a place in British cinema. In A Taste of Honey, it is the harsh reality of Jo (Rita Tushingham) and her mother Helen (Dora Bryan). They seem doomed to each other, until Jo finds a room of his own and has an idyllic 'romance' with the gay Geoffrey (Murray Melvin).
