"Their new full-length feature picture!"
mrs. Laurel and Mrs. Hardy find themselves under the illusion that their men are embarking on a sea voyage to calm Ollie's nerves. In reality, the gentlemen in Chicago are putting the spotlight on a convention of 'the sons of the desert'. When the truth comes out in a very playful way, the dolls are dancing.

A fun and entertaining film with a very high tempo and a duo that is well attuned to each other. Not everything is equally fun, but there are more than enough successful things to entertain the viewer for more than an hour.
The story is nice and Laurel and Hardy give it a nice interpretation. Laurel is often the more gullible of the bunch and Hardy, however, often gets the blows. Personally, I think Laurel is the better of the two. Especially in the moments in and in front of the two houses he is really at his best.
I personally found the ending very funny too. Laurel gets away with it, because he's honest, and Ollie gets the whole crockery thrown at his head. I had to laugh at that. Incidentally, the convention itself was the least fun part of Sons of the Desert. Fortunately, before and after that, it's more than okay.

Wonderful Stan & Ollie classic, but certainly not their best film in my opinion. I especially like the part about the convention in Chicago. In the confrontations with their resp. husbands before and after Laurel & Hardy seemingly effortlessly regain their usual level. I have seen this film several times, because it is and continues to be enjoyable.

Mediocre.
In itself Laurel & Hardy just do their typical act well, without further ado. It's never boring and the universal idea of the man under the hood is still undated after 90 years. But it's just not my sense of humor.
As a child, in the time of the old Zorro series on Ketnet, I sometimes received short skits from the Dikke and the Dunne. I like to think I thought it was funny back then. But unfortunately we are talking about 20 years ago. These days I don't get excited about this duo, even if it's about one of their classics.
