Shrek Forever After plot

"It ain't ogre...til it's ogre."

Instead of scaring away many villagers, Shrek (Mike Myers) has become a real family man. Shrek comes into contact with smooth-talking Rumplestiltskin. This shocks him into an alternate version of his world, Far Far Away, where Ogres is hunted and he never met Fiona (Cameron Diaz) at all. It's his job to get his familiar world back.

In itself a good approach, but too limited an elaboration and a scenario with holes (ie why had king/queen never told about Rumple..., where do the witches suddenly come from, ...). The "flute" also makes the whole thing a bit childish, and the true love's kiss with an hourglass and 'being there on time' we have only seen 100*. Unfortunately I can't get further than 3*.

Part 1 was great, part 2 very deserving, but it's a good thing there was no more part 5 (although side characters like Donkey remain great of course )

Apparently this last Shrek for the time being has already been reviewed, because I could still remember many pieces. Shrek 4 doesn't reach the level of the first 2 parts, but in my opinion was much better than the previous part. The plot line with Rumplestiltskin is nicely developed and offers a clear moral. A moral that is a bit unoriginal and even a bit corny, but it is still about an animation film that is also aimed at children.

Indeed, the grass is not always greener on the other side and yes, people would be better off focusing on what they do have and not relying on what they lack. On the other hand, you can draw the line to who you really are. Are we really who we want to be in this organized society where the house-garden-tree principle is the ideal image? I can understand Shrek in that respect. A monkey remains a monkey, even if you teach him manners...

Donkey continues to really catch the eye and the jokes and insertions remain amusing. The witches had something too. The consequences of the contract by omitting that one day are a bit of a joke, but everyone should be able to follow, of course. Shrek has taken me from the first movie and has taken me globally to some fun hours of entertainment. Good!
