I went to watch this animation without any prior knowledge. Actually only because I like animation film. And... oh yeah... because it was highly regarded somewhere...

All I can say is that I watched this film in amazement. In fact, everything was quite well put together. They were good animations too. The images were great. And a lot of things happened, but it just didn't get to me. Like 'what am I supposed to do with this now'. Is it funny then? is it useful for the story? I was constantly empathizing with the material, but I also did not develop any affinity with the figures. In short, I sat for a long time watching something I didn't want to see at all.

I won't immediately say a failed project, but it was certainly not for me. There will certainly be a target group that finds this extremely funny... or something...

Boggis, Bunce, and Bean

One fat, one short, one lean!

Amusing stop-motion film that is nevertheless vintage Anderson: symmetrical, bone-dry and smooth. The voice acting is excellent, while the somewhat rough animation gives the film its own charming face. By the way, the coming-of-age subplot does more here than the main story, which rumbles Chicken Run-wise to the well-known ending. Nice to recognize Michael Gambon as one of the evil farmers, and to stay with the nursery rhyme in your head. Ironically, perhaps one of Anderson's best.

No eggs from that farmer

fantastic mr. Fox is a beautiful production with an unimaginable amount of detail, and probably an unimaginable amount of man-hours. Worth watching for this reason alone. The story feels fresh and original, and is suffused with the typical Wes Anderson style. In short, lots of artistic shots and a quirky form of humor.

Although it all looks beautiful, I did find it a disadvantage that I was never really carried away with the story. It was also difficult to bond with the characters because I often felt more like watching a moving piece of art than a movie. This is fine if you're pre-configured for this, but not if you're hoping to see a story that takes you along. The director's style is too distant for this. I realize that I also experienced this at The Grand Budapest Hotel, and that I experienced it again here.

Wes Anderson will always have a huge fan base because of the beautiful, unique, and beautiful styles he manages to conjure up on screen. However, many people will not like his work. His directing style is too aloof for this. And especially with this story, I would have liked to be more transported into the wonderful world of the wonderful mister fox.

3.5*
