Mediocre movie. The thing feels especially rushed. Characters don't really captivate, nor does the actual story. Action isn't that great and there's really nothing in it worth watching. The Rock couldn't act here yet, but with his charisma he still manages to make it, and at times the film easily looks away from the couch. But that's it. 1.5*.

Very poor.

Especially very cheesy. The film looks fairly cheap (and that for a blockbuster) and is clearly not interested in a good solid build-up, but it's all a bit too serious for me. I think they should have just turned this into a full-blown comedy.

The Rock is really broke in this movie. Will not say that he has become a world actor in the meantime, but in the meantime he knows how to save himself much better in these kinds of films. The rest of the cast isn't much better, by the way, everyone walks around as if they had a script pushed under their noses for the first time.

Visually it is poor, the soundtrack is really not to listen to, even the fight scenes are nothing. It's that the pace is still quite okay and the film isn't too long, but it's a mystery to me that they've made a handful of sequels of this. This isn't the best movie.

1.5*

dull.

Probably only made to piggyback on the success of The Mummy Returns I think. Johnson has now become a great actor who runs one of the Instagram accounts with the highest number of followers. Then you've come a long way. But here you can still see his days when he was a bit less successful.

Compared to the Sommers films, this really doesn't look like anything. There is almost nowhere but a spark of that adventurous atmosphere. Sommers also made his films much grander while this is much more subdued. Except for the big sets, because they do look good.

But for the rest it has little to do with the body. Action that looks like nothing and is rather ugly, Johnson who acts far below par and secondary characters that also barely get off the ground. Hu, in particular, is certainly not there for her acting skills. I also think most viewers can guess why she's there.

The rest of the film doesn't last long, and the pace is high, but the adventurous atmosphere that should be there is almost completely missing. A shame, because it could have worked. It's also bizarre that the films spawned so many sequels, although they seem to be hitting a rather meager budget I think. In any case, a very mediocre opener.
