A very nice story only it is too fragmentary (Fawcett is in army, Fawcett goes to London, Fawcett goes first time to jungle, Fawcett returns home, Fawcett goes to jungle a second time, Fawcett returns, war breaks out so Fawcett has to go play soldier,
Fawcett is injured, stays home for years, son is inspired to return to jungle with daddy, son and Fawcett go back to jungle, live among Native Americans and disappear from the radar for good. Mama sad.)
worked out and that's probably why it often gets long-winded. The film wants to show too much, but it doesn't do it in the right way. The story could certainly be told differently, but in my opinion there is too much focus on useless things. It is excellent to portray the beautiful nature as long as the pace does not suffer too much. That happens too often here.

As far as I'm concerned, it's really a disappointment because I've been looking forward to this for a very long time after a fantastic trailer (actually all the fun is in it).

This is a gem of a movie. After Jungle and Silence again a heavy film, but I still thought this was a very nice film. Beautifully made, beautiful music and a story that captivated me. Strikingly after Jungle we go to Bolivia again. In total we go looking for City of Z three times and of course it had to go wrong once. In between we also see a part of World War I. The end feels apocalyptic with a sound that goes through the marrow and bone. The Lost City of Z feels like a cheap B movie when we look at the title, but it certainly isn't and despite its long playing time, it is fascinating enough to stay on the retina.

We are somewhat in the middle when it comes to the film and our opinion about it.

Beautiful images, a great story, but the trips outside the rivers of Bolivia are rarely seen. For example, I would have liked to have seen more of the preparations and voyages across the ocean.

From the film I understand the story is based on true events and it is funny to see how the learned gentlemen think themselves above the common people and the people of Bolivia. Yes, delusions! You see the stupidity reflected in the words people use about another to show how "superior" they feel over people who haven't studied or live in forests.

That, while it later turned out that these forest dwellers were further advanced in certain matters in terms of development than "modern" England in earlier times.

The film gets a 7 from us.
