“Luck don't live out here.”

Superb movie. Sometimes you have those movies that leave you speechless during the end credits, and Wind River is finally a movie that does that. Don't be fooled by the icy weather conditions and the many snow showers, because underneath them emotions bubbles that a volcano could erupt. Wind River is at first glance a conventional crime story with some dramatic elements, but that's not the film's greatest appeal.

Director Sheridan also wrote the script for Sicario, and that ominous atmosphere is once again present here. Everything is just right, from the direction to the acting, and from the camera work to the fabulous score. The raw emotions can be skimmed off the faces of the actors, and Jeremy Renner in particular is in top form. With Olsen, Greene, Asbille and Birmingham all having their momnets. The final scene between Renner and Olsen, when all the pent-up emotions come to a head, is an Oscar showcase for both. Wind River is mainly about unprocessed trauma and the crimes that we as humans are capable of, and the moments when violence takes the upper hand, Sheridan shows his class. Starring Olsen as the tough young FBI agent, in frigid Wyoming ("It's Spring people!") she gets a crash course of horror that you can't learn from the books.

Chillingly strong, also better than I expected. The character distribution may be a bit stereotypical and the dialogues are sometimes a bit too emphatic, but that is made up for by the exciting action scenes that are carefully distributed throughout the film. A very fortunate choice of direction is the moment in which it is shown exactly what happened, this is perfectly placed in the work towards the climax. Also found the event quite moving. The following shoot-out still comes unexpectedly and is definitely brutal, but in a good way. Enough movies where you're watching a shooting that lacks any sense of danger, that's different here. The whole setting of snow and Indians finishes it off. Superb movie.

You can already see it in the ratings, but otherwise you'll hear it from me now: One hell of a film with only a few very small mistakes. So small, I didn't even see them.

In almost the entire film there is a subcutaneous tension that can be felt from beginning to end. The nice thing about the tension in this film is that it slowly becomes more palpable as the film progresses.

The actors/actresses also do an excellent job here and of course under the watchful eye of director Taylor Sheridan. He started his career in 2011 with an average horror film Vile (2011).

Well, in my view, Sheridan proved to be a good director with this movie "Wind River".

Our rating is a 9!
