Harry Potter [Daniel Radcliffe] now teaches first-time students himself and is introduced to Horace Slughorn [Jim Broadbent], an old professor who returns at the invitation of Dumbledore [Michael Gambon]. Slughorn turns out to be the key to crucial information about Voldemort, and Harry is ordered to extract that secret from Slughorn's memory. Knowing that Sirius Black [Gary Oldman] has sacrificed his life for him, Harry increasingly feels that he must bear the responsibility for the fight against Voldemort alone. Sirius Snape takes an unbreakable oath that jeopardizes his loyalty to The Order of the Phoenix, and Draco Melfoy joins Voldemort after the humiliation of his father [Jason Isaacs]. The prom announcement puts a strain on Ron and Hermione's friendship. Well made and acted with some tense moments, but this is mainly a warm up for the grand finale in The Deathly Hallows.

With each part, it turns out that the best has been saved for last, the proverbial icing on the cake. In The Prisoner of Azkaban the attack of the Dementors in the Forbidden Forest, in The Goblet of Fire the resurrection of You-Know-Who in Havermouth graveyard, in The Order of The Phoenix the duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort in the Atrium of the Ministry. Also in this part all registers are pulled open again. Dumbledore conjuring a sea of fire from his wand in the cave, to save Harry. Like he's spinning a giant cotton candy from flames.
Those who have read the books will not fail to notice how much of the story is lost in the films: the entanglement surrounding the sticks, for example, or the fact that Harry continues to mistrust Snape, no matter what Dumbledore says. It all doesn't come out right.
Radcliffe's acting is noticeably better this time around, much more natural, less wooden, which is perhaps best seen when he ingests a lucky potion and therefore behaves much more loosely and fearlessly.
Finally, about the scene where Dumbledore visits young Tom Riddle at the orphanage and he asks the boy, 'You can do things, can't you Tom?' To which the boy replies that he can hurt people and... "make animals do what he wants, without training them". Good on Rowling for putting this in.

If we look at the scores here on Moviemeter, this would be the worst movie, but I don't think that's the case at all. In my opinion this is just the best (although it is difficult against the Philosopher's Stone which has a great nostalgic value for me). Quite a lot happens here and the drama along with Carlo Kannewasser's death in Goblet of Fire is perhaps the best here. Unfortunately I have to admit that I don't think I've ever read the sixth book. I think there could have been more in it. Certainly Snape remains an underexposed character in my opinion. Dumbledore finally comes to the fore here, which was cool. His death also comes in.
